Controversial thriller that was banned from cinemas across the UK to air on BBC tonight

This is the fourth time the BBC has aired the film labelled one of the 'most depressing and scariest films' ever.

This time though it will be a highly reviewed, and highly controversial, thriller which was pulled after a ‘machete brawl’ occurred at a screening of the film.

VUE aired the film, called Blue Story, at 60 sites across the UK and Ireland but pulled it after one weekend.

At the time, the cinema chain issued a statement saying there had been '25 significant incidents' and that the police had been called on multiple occasions.

Creator Rapman blasted the ban – questioning whether there were ‘hidden reasons’ behind the ban.

Blue Story follows a pair of best friends who end up on opposite sides of a postcode gang war after one of them is attacked.

Starring Micheal Ward and Stephen Odubola, the film got a score of 93 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film being pulled from cinemas sparked a backlash.

A brawl broke out at a multiplex cinema in Birmingham, with five arrested including a 13-year-old girl, and seven police officers injured.

Rapman went on to create the successful Netflix original Supacell which dominated the streamer's charts upon its release last year.

Blue Story will air on BBC Three at 10.05pm tonight (25 February).
