Chris Pratt has issued an apology for “insensitive” Instagram post

"In the future I'll try to be a little less ignorant about it."

Chris Pratt has issued a lengthy apology after facing backlash for one of his recent Instagram posts.

The actor shared a post on Instagram requesting that people watch the video with sound, instead of relying on subtitles like most people do on social media these days.

His reason for doing so was because he wanted them to “watch and digest the information” rather than scrolling past it.

However, he received massive criticism for showing ignorance to fans who have hearing difficulties and who rely on subtitles. He deleted the post and shared an apology where he explained his reason for the first post and how he now understands how insensitive it was. Along with the apology in the caption he also used sign language in the video to say sorry.

In the post he said:

“I realize now doing so was incredibly insensitive to the many folks out there who depend on subtitles. More than 38 million Americans live with some sort of hearing disability. So I want to apologize.

“I have people in my life who are hearing-impaired, and the last thing in the world I would want to do is offend them or anybody who suffers from hearing loss or any other disability. So truly from the bottom of my heart I apologize.

“Thanks for pointing this out to me. In the future I’ll try to be a little less ignorant about it.”
