With "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" tearing up the charts all over the world, there wasn't anywhere you could go this year and not hear Cardi B's raw but loveable tone. Becoming the first unaccompanied female rapper to hit the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill's 1998 hit "Doo Wop (That Thing)" - she then surpassed Hill's reign by sitting at number one for three consecutive weeks - there's been a lot of hype surrounding the bite-sized Bronx native.
After riding so high off of "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" and a couple other high charting guest spots (G-Eazy's "No Limit" and Migos' "Motorsport", featuring Nicki Minaj), many critics believed her buzz to be on the decline as her much anticipated follow-up single kept getting delayed. The question then became: "Can she follow up the whirlwind that is 'Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)'?" Wondering if we'd ever actually see her next single, it arrived this morning. So, wonder no more.
Teaming up with 21 Savage, someone else who has had a pretty big year - including a number one hit in "Rockstar" with Post Malone - the current queen of rap and Amber Rose's boo offer up "Bartier Cardi".
Complete with catchy hook and an earth-shattering bassline, it's sure to ring out in the clubs everywhere. Whether or not it'll be as big as "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" is something we'll have to wait and see. But it'll definitely land in the Top 10, making it her fourth record to do so.
People can throw all the shade they want at Cardi B but she's laughing all the way to the bank. Until this new record climbs into the Top 10, let's look at the fact that she has three already, something that's taken some of your favourite pop stars a lot longer to do. For comparison’s sake, it took Ariana Grande ten singles before she tallied three in the Top 10. It took Taylor Swift nine.
