The man, eh. Constantly trying to suppress your art form; constantly trying to shut you down. But the man and his rules are no match for the eloquent reasoning of one David Grohl.
The Foo Fighters frontman has written a letter to Cornwall Council on behalf of a local metal band called Black Leaves of Envy.
They’d been hit with a ban on rehearsing in their garage at a noise level any higher than 30-40 decibels – absolutely impossible for a metal band. In fact, as Dave writes in his letter, that isn’t much noisier than a dishwasher.
According to The Plymouth Herald, the young band have been unable to practise for the last three months, and so boldly called upon one of the most famous musicians on earth to aid their cause.
As you can see from the letter, he did not let them down.

Dave argues that any band needs to be able to jam freely in their garage or basement, like he did in his younger years, and says that doing so is ‘paramount to the future of art and music’. He also urged the council to reconsider the ban and send out a positive message to musicians everywhere. It’s very poetic.
He also encouraged people in the same situation to research the best ways to soundproof their rehearsal space, rather than just cranking up the volume without a second thought. Responsible rock ‘n’ roll, you might say – but rock ‘n’ roll that is crucially allowed to be louder than a gentle little dormouse.
The council have since responded to the letter, tweeting this acknowledgement.
