Bundesliga Twitter account recreates iconic Mitchell and Webb sketch

Robert Webb and David Mitchell are one of the UK's most iconic comedy duos. Not exactly Eric and Ernie or Laurel and Hardie, but they have given us countless moments of genuine comedy gold in their hit sitcom Peep Show, as well as their sketch show, That Mitchell and Webb Look.

Undoubtedly their best sketch was the 'WATCH THE FOOTBALL' parody of TV channels' football promotions. Mitchell's high-intensity monologue is stunning, as he urges viewers not to miss "thousands and thousands of hours of football, each more climactic than the last! Constant, dizzying, twenty-four hour, yearlong, endless football! Every kick of it massively mattering to someone, presumably."

If you've not seen it, watch it.

Anyway, the Bundesliga's official Twitter account dropped a social media golden nugget, recreating the sketch in their promo for the weekend's football.

Kicking off with Hertha Berlin vs Schalke, they tweeted: "TOMORROW NIGHT on Bundesliga, it's the clash of the Blues, as the irresistible force of Hertha meet the unmovable object of Schalke, in a clash that's gonna go down in history as one of the many football matches that are happening this Friday..."

 And so on...

Bundesliga club accounts love to indulge in banter on the timeline which, if we're honest, can be cringeworthy. But this thread is one for the ages. The genius behind this piece of content deserves a pay rise, whoever they may be.

German football may have slipped behind LaLiga and the Premier League in terms of commercial success, but the aforementioned leagues have a long way to go if they are to match their German counterparts on the content field.

Take note, social media gurus everywhere. This is how you get yourselves noticed. With fans of Mitchell and Webb fans anyway.

I, for one, will certainly be watching irresistible force of Hertha against the unmovable object of Schalke.
