Britney Spears announces engagement to Sam Asghari

The singer announced the news in a video on Instagram.

Britney Spears has announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari.

The singer met Asghari, a personal trainer and actor on the set of a music video in 2016, and the pair have been going out ever since.

In a video posted on her Instagram, Spears shows off the ring, writing: “I can’t f*cking believe it!”

The post has since racked up over 2.4 million likes.

Asghari confirmed the news himself with a picture on his account.

Asghari was born in Iran but moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12. Confirming the news of his engagement to the Toxic singer, his manager told People magazine: “The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them.”

The announcement of the couple’s engagement comes just days after Spears’ father filed papers at a LA court to end his 13-year conservatorship of her.

Spears has been fighting to end the conservatorship, which sees her father, Jamie, control her personal life and finances, and recently revealed that the terms of the conservatorship prevented her from marrying Asghari or having children with him.

The arrangement was imposed in 2008 when concerns were raised over the singer’s mental health.

Britney told a judge in July that her father’s treatment of her was a form of “cruelty” and she wished to file charges against him for “conservator abuse.”

She has twice tried to remove him from the role in the last two years, but with little success.

In 2019, her father stepped down as the conservator of his daughter’s personal affairs due to health issues, but continued to oversee her business arrangements.
