Bohemian Rhapsody the film to beat as Oscar nominations announced

The Favourite picked up ten nominations and Black Panther is the first superhero film to score a Best Picture nomination

After winning Best Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody remains the film to beat in the Oscars race after it picked up nods in the Best Picture and Best Actor category. Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born was largely overlooked by the Golden Globes but it’s also in contention for the main award along with seven others.

The musical drama also saw Cooper and Lady Gaga pick up nominations in their respective acting categories too.

In terms of the Best Picture, here are the nominees; Black Panther, BlackKKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Vice.

Black Panther has now made history as the first superhero film to score a Best Picture nomination.

Best Actor will be competed by Christian Bale (Vice), Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Viggo Mortensen (Green Book).

BlackKKlansman director Spike Lee has received up his very first Oscar nomination in the Best Director category and he’ll be joined by Pawel Pawlikowski, Yorgos Lanthimos, Alfonso Cuaron, and Adam McKay.

The Best Supporting Actress category will be competed by Emma Stone (The Favourite), Amy Adams, (Vice), Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marina De Tavira (Roma), and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite)

As for Best Supporting Actor, the nominees are Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Adam Driver (BlackKklansman), Ricard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Sam Eliott (A Star is Born), and Sam Rockwell (Vice)

The Favourite, produced by the Irish company Element Pictures, picked up ten nominations in total and it’s tied with Roma for the most nods this year. A Star is Born picked up seven nominations, with Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody both receiving five nods each.

 

Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Mirai, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will all be competing for Best Animated Film.
