Aquaman 2: Emilia Clarke replaces Amber Heard as Mera in stunning image

The images show how easily Clarke could slip into the role

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hit headlines a few times last year, with speculation that Amber Heard‘s time as Mera was up following her highly-publicised defamation case loss to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

In June last year, Depp won his multi-million dollar lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp was awarded $10.35m after his team successfully argued that Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke about being a victim of abuse – but did not name Depp – was defamatory.

Heard was awarded $2 million in her countersuit.

A number of appeals were launched on both sides following the ruling, but in December the pair finally settled the terms of the lawsuit after Heard agreed to pay Depp $1m.

At one point during the six-week trial rumours suggested Warner Bros had cut Heard’s role and was looking to bring in a new actress to play Mera for the follow-up to 2018’s box office hit (reports in September suggested she was still onboard).

One of the favourites to assume the role was Jason Mamoa’s former Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke, who fans continue to express interest in seeing take over.

Some newly created fan art shows exactly what Clarke would look like if she slipped into the role.

Digital artist Deigo de Sousa has debuted a jaw-dropping new piece of concept art that sees Clarke take on the role, suiting up in the iconic costume – first introduced by Heard in Aquaman – and donning the character’s signature auburn hair.

It’s not hard to see why so many fans are calling for Clarke to take over the role of Mera when getting a glimpse of what she could look like as the iconic DC Comics heroine, Fansided opined.

Warner Bros. Discovery has not announced any plans to recast the role — though execs did confess to considering the move.

While testifying during the Depp/Heard trial earlier this year, President of DC Films Walter Hamada revealed that there had been conversations about recasting the role due to an “issue of chemistry” between Heard and Momoa.

While fans may want Clarke join the DCEU in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, she is not part of the cast — though a search of the Aquaman 2 cast on Google might lead you to believe she is.

When you google the Aquaman 2 cast, Clarke’s name appears in the cast carousel feature.
