Ant McPartlin close to tears as he gives moving acceptance speech at TV Awards

"A tough 12 months"

It’s certainly been a tough year for Ant McPartlin; the TV host recently announced he is divorcing his wife of 11 years, Lisa Armstrong.

And on Tuesday evening while accepting a trio of National Television Awards at the O2 in London, the 46-year-old struggled to hold back his emotions.

Taking to the stage with his sidekick Declan Donnelly, Ant admitted he was “shaking” that it had been a “tough 12 months”.

He also made sure to thank his family and friends for helping him “get through”.

The duo picked up accolades for their work on I’m A Celeb and on Saturday Night Takeaway, as well as a third for best TV presenter.

Dec himself stated that the honours meant “more this year than any other year”.

Ant was up against his estranged wife, Lisa, in the Best Talent Show category; he for Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor, and she for Strictly Come Dancing where she’s head of makeup (in the end, Strictly proved victorious).

Earlier this month, his spokesman confirmed that he was ending his marriage.

It was added: “Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families.”

The Sun On Sunday also quoted a source who reveals that “this was a tough decision for Ant but he has to do the right thing for his health.

“The marriage has effectively been struggling for eight months. He’s given it a good go.”
