Alison Hammond hits back at Cliff Richard 'fat-shaming' Elvis

‘Good on Alison Hammond’

Alison Hammond has been praised for the way she responded to Sir Cliff Richard’s ‘fat-shaming’ comments about Elvis Presley.

On Tuesday, Sir Cliff appeared on This Morning to speak to Alison and her co-host Dermot O’Leary about his legendary career.

During the chat, the 83-year-old recalled how he once had the opportunity to have his photo take with Elvis Presley, but turned down the offer because the King of Rock and Roll had gained weight.

He explained: “He’d put on a lot of weight. I thought, ‘if I’m taking a photograph with him, and it’s going to be hanging on my refrigerator, he’s gotta look good.”

Cliff added: “I put it off, and then, of course, he died.”

Once he’d finished his bizarre tale, Alison said: “Should never have put it off just because they’re a little bit heavier.”

“If you’re a fan of somebody, if you get the chance to meet them, meet them, even if they’re put on weight,” the singer responded, with Alison then asking: “Is that why you don’t want me at your house?”

Viewers took to social media to praise the presenter for her response to Cliff’s comments, with one person writing: “Cliff Richard was on @thismorning and the only one who called him out on his body shaming bullshit was Alison Hammond.”

Someone else wrote: “Well done @AlisonHammond, fat shaming is not to be promoted.”

A third asked: “Who the hell does Cliff Richard think he is, not wanting a photo with Elvis because Elvis had put on weight. Alison Hammond gave a quick response. How bloody rude.”

And another commented: “Good on Alison Hammond subtly having a dig back at Cliff Richard here.”
