Rating every striker Jose Mourinho has coached since his Porto days

Jose Mourinho falsely claimed Didier Drogba scored 46 goals a season at Chelsea, but his record with strikers still has more hits than misses

Reuben Pinder

He’s coached a few half decent players in his career

It doesn’t require a genius to predict that Jose Mourinho at Tottenham will probably not work out in the long-term. Even in the short term, it’s tough to argue that it’s going well.

But if there’s one certainty at Spurs, it’s that Harry Kane will score goals as long as he’s fit. Former Arsenal player and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, however, isn’t sure of Mourinho’s ability to get those goals out of Kane. 25 a season, to be specific. (Why always this barometer of 25?)

So, in response, Jose did what Jose does and during a press conference, reeled off a list of impressive stats from his managerial career. It’s safe to say he made his point – strikers have scored goals under his management – though he did fuck up his maths on Drogba, but we’ll forgive him.

We decided to go all the way back to his Porto days, when Benni McCarthy led the line to European glory, right through to his current Spurs team and give each striker a mark out of ten.
