FC United’s disdain for the Glazer family hasn’t lessened over time

No longer a protest club, FCUM’s frustration at the Glazers has not relented

FC United of Manchester was formed in 2005, due in part to Manchester United’s takeover by American businessman Malcolm Glazer. Founded by a group of disaffected United fans, the club has gone from strength to strength in its 14-year history.

Disaffection and disillusionment is growing among fans that remain loyal to the Premier League club, which is still owned by the Glazer family, and while anger of the club’s direction and priorities has risen over the years, the primary annoyance at this moment in time appears to revolve around the club’s on-field performance.

JOE travelled to Broadhurst Park to speak to fans of FCUM about the reasons for their formation of the team, and why they’re tentatively pleased to see some United fans’ displeasure at the club right now.

The fans also discussed what it means to support a fan-owned football club, one which has maintained its connection to the community that supports it, and one which ensures it will not turn into the commercial behemoth that the Red Devils have.
