Duncan Ferguson buys drinks for Everton fans before Aston Villa clash

What a brilliant gesture from Ferguson

Duncan Ferguson bought multiple Everton supporters a drink before the Toffees’ home clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Scotsman was names the Blues’ caretaker manager earlier this week as they continue their search for a permanent replacement for Rafael Benitez.

Benitez was sacked after just seven months in charge following last weekend’s defeat to Norwich City, leaving Everton just six points clear of the relegation zone.

Ferguson previously did a similar role at Goodison Park and will again step in with the club stating he will take charge of “upcoming games”.

During his previous reign in the hot-seat, Everton drew two of his three games whilst beating Chelsea 3-1 at home.

The 50-year-old is hugely popular amongst Toffees fans, for both his time as a player and role as a coach at the club.

Prior to Everton’s Premier League clash against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, BT Sport reported that Ferguson had been in contact with a number of pubs close to Goodison and informed the owners that he wanted to buy supporters their first drink before the match.

Former Blues defender Joleon Lescott praised the Scot’s gesture, saying: “I think that’s the kind of way that the owner should look at appointing the next manager, I think they need to build relationships.

“Getting someone they want to see in charge, I think that is key to decision making going forward, it’s building back the relationships.”

The Toffees currently sit 16th following a poor run of form, with Frank Lampard thought to be among the leading candidates for the role and is set to be interviewed by the club’s top brass, reported the Telegraph.

Lampard has been out of a job since leaving Chelsea a year ago but could get an opportunity on Merseyside.
