That is gorgeous

UFC has unveiled their new “Legacy” title belt design, and it is a thing of beauty.

The Legacy Championship Belt is intended to mark a new era for the company.

The centrepiece of the belt is giant UFC logo, hade from highly-polished gold. A lot of thought appears to have gone into the design – far more than just “Oh, this looks cool”.

According to the press release, “the logo is centered on a pattern comprising squares and octagons. The octagon contains 25 lines that represent UFC’s silver anniversary, which it celebrated in 2018. Each square has eight lines that represent the eight sides of the Octagon.”

The new belt is 50 inches in length, 12 inches in height and weighs 10.45 lbs, and has a real leather strap.

The left side plate will display the name of the titleholder, and their weight class, along with small “flag iconography” representing their native nation. Eight stones surround that plate, and for each successful title defence, a red rudy will replace one of them. The date and location of each defence will also be engraved next to the stone.

The right side plate displays the company’s logo, with eight more stones. And if they go on to make more than eight victories in championship fights, more red rubies will be added to that right side plate.

UFC’s jewelry partner, Bixler, will donate all stones and engravings.

The belt will be awarded for the first time to the winner of Saturday night’s main event between flyweight champion Henry Cejudo and bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, at UFC Fight Night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“This Saturday begins a new era for UFC, and it’s a perfect time to unveil our new UFC Legacy Championship Belt,” Dana White said in a statement. “The belt honors UFC’s past, while recognizing the amazing accomplishments of our current champions.”
