‘He’s a changed man’: Woman marries her ‘high school bully’

‘I can call him my high school bully and high school sweetheart’

A woman has revealed how she is “happily married” to the man her “high school bully” who teased her every day for months at school.

Lauren Enslow, 20, from Utah, fell in love with Lucas Olsen, 21, when she forgave him for tormenting her every day when she was 15.

At high school, Laura was in the same friendship group as her now-husband Lucas.

But she “hated it” when Lucas and his friends would call her ‘Linda’ after the cartoon character from Bob’s Burgers and would film her in the school hallways.

“It’s funny that I can call him my high school bully and high school sweetheart,” Lauren said.

“I have forgiven him. I’ll still tease him about sometimes. He used to call me Linda from Bob’s Burgers and I didn’t like being compared to her at all. I hated him then.”

But their relationship changed in November 2017 when Lucas witnessed Lauren in a car accident with her mum Jessica Enslow, 48, and sister, Alyssa Kimber, 28.

“We were in a parking lot and saw him,” Lauren said.

“My sister thought it was funny to roll down the window and call out his name. Seconds later we were in a car crash.

“No one was seriously injured but the cars were messed up.

“He asked if I was OK. It showed he cared. It helped me like him again.”

Following the accident, the two became friendly after Lauren’s mate convinced them to go on a double date.

They hit it off and began dating in February 2018.

Lauren explained: “I got a soft spot for him when he reached out after my accident. We ended up developing feelings for each other.

“People say they would never have forgiven him, but I can’t base his personality off who he was for three months when he was 16.”

Talking about his teasing of Lauren when at school, Lucas said: “Looking back now I just think it was silly.

“When you are that young you think things like that are funny. And of course me and my friends thought it was funny.”

He continued: “I never actually thought she looked like that cartoon character, my friends and I were just coming up with characters to compare Lauren and all her friends to as a joke, that ended up going a little too far.

“I teased her because in the moment I think it was a mix of because I liked her and because my friends were doing it as well. Peer pressure in a way.”

After dating for more than four years, Lucas proposed in July 2022.

“He took me a top of a mountain to see watch some fireworks,” Lauren recalled.

“Then he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring.

“I had been a bit suspicious but still very shocked when it actually happened.”

The couple tied the knot in October 2022 – eloping with just their immediate family present at the ceremony.

“People say they could never marry their high school bully,” Lauren said.

“But for me it was mostly teasing, and I got past it.”

Lucas said: “There was always feelings for her but I think once we both were wanting the same thing life just did it’s thing.

“I’m a strong believer of everything happens for a reason and I love that it finally happened.

“Marrying your high school sweetheart is the most beautiful thing I could ever dream for.

“Lauren is awesome and I couldn’t ask for a better person to experience the rest of my life with. I want a family with Lauren, I’m excited to build a house and watch the rest of our dreams come true.”
