Paige Deville quits Gogglebox after problems with mum

Paige Deville also hit out at the show for ‘zero aftercare support’

Paige Deville, who appeared on Channel 4’s Gogglebox as part of the Birmingham family, has announced her sudden exit from the hit show.

Deville, 25, told BirminghamLive: “There have been problems within the family and my mum was given an ultimatum. The decision means I have nothing to do with her now. I think the decision is irreversible. It is very sad but that’s life unfortunately.”

Furthermore, the Brummy posted to her Twitter to explain that other factors including long hours and control over her and mum Sally’s “actions and opinions” also resulted in the decision. The announcement, which was made on the morning before the latest episode aired this past Friday, shocked fans.

Deville, who also runs a recruitment business, went into further detail, stating: “My mum said she would no longer be filming Gogglebox. The show offered me an opportunity to work with another family member but I didn’t want to work with anyone else. My mum and myself had started the journey together and I wasn’t going to film with anyone else.”

She went on to note an instance where “At one point my mum had her arm around me for four hours and they didn’t want her to move her arm. It isn’t as glamorous as you might think. It is very hard work.”

Paige said that filming sessions could last anywhere from 3:30pm to 12:30 in the morning and that the pair would be paid £100 per filming session. She even went on to note how she bought a car and the show asked to make it clear the purchase wasn’t endorsed by them.

As per a Channel 4 spokesperson, Gogglebox has responded to the claims, stating that “The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”
