Manchester United turned down the chance to complete a massive transfer coup for Germany international Marco Reus, according to reports.

Dortmund were prepared to do business with United for £60m, according to ESPN, but it is thought that the Premier League club were prepared to go no higher than £50m. United's unwillingness to spend big has not lasted, though, as their eventual outlay on teenage French forward Anthony Martial could come close to the amount they were quoted by Dortmund for a more proven talent. https://twitter.com/MiguelDelaney/status/638735033424052224 It is unclear whether United's interest in Reus had a part to play in the club allowing Adnan Januzaj to join Dortmund on loan. Louis van Gaal has let forwards Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez leave during the summer transfer window, while Radamel Falcao's loan from Monaco was not made permanent, leaving United massively understaffed up front.
