It was a momentous occasion - even before a ball had been kicked.

From the famous arch resplendent in blue, white and red to magnificent fans within, Wembley was the scene of heartfelt solidarity in the face of bleak tragedy. Roy Hodgson, Didier Deschamps and Prince William laid wreaths on the pitch to warm applause, prior to the national anthems. England v France - International Friendly : News Photo First came a rousing rendition of God Save The Queen, then a very emotional chorus of La Marseillaise. England supporters singing along with their French allies in a wonderful gesture of unity. The minutes' silence was of course impeccably observed, before a game of great importance for which the result was irrelevant. Media preview
