If you're new to the game and weren't around in the 90s when this shit first dropped, then there are 18 different types of Pokemon.
These include Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Grass, Water, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Dark and Fairy.
Obviously each type has different strengths and weaknesses against certain types of Pokemon - unsurprisingly Water types like Blastoise are pretty handy against Fire types like Charizard, and so on.
But instead of going in blind and trying in vain to rough up a Bug-type Caterpie with a Steel-type Magneton, you need to get clued up about what beats what.
That's where this cheat sheet from Pokemon Go Database comes in incredibly handy when trying to figure out which Pokemon to fight with.
Each type can either have a large, normal or even no effect at all. This compendious document lays it all out so you can make a quick judgement call on your adversaries strengths and weaknesses and how your own Pokémon measure up against others.
Store it on your phone, print it off and stick it in your pocket or even memorise the whole damn thing if you have to. It's worth taking it everywhere you go.
