Trainspotting sequel in 2016 “would make sense”, Ewan McGregor claims

Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor appeared to open the door for a sequel to the cult film, after patching things up with director Danny Boyle.

McGregor, who was just 24 when he played Renton in the award-winning adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel, suggested it "would make sense" to release a sequel next year to mark the 20th anniversary of the film. However, speaking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the actor admitted that it was still some way from becoming a reality. "We don't have a script yet, and nothing has been determined," he said, but noted that "everything is great" between him and Boyle. The pair fell out in 2000 after McGregor was passed over for the lead role in The Beach, but they appear to have resolved their differences.
