Twelve years we've waited for this moment. Twelve long years.

But on Sunday July 24 2016 that Robot Wars-shaped void in all of our lives was finally filled. Inevitably, it wasn't quite the same as it was the last time it graced our television screens in the early 2000s. The lack of Craig Charles was an obvious disappointment... https://twitter.com/beckyharr/status/757299525379850240 https://twitter.com/robleane/status/757299570934185984 https://twitter.com/KieranTaberner/status/757295561452257280 Jonathan Pearce was still about, however. Just as we were starting to forget that he was anything other than a football commentator, his uncontrollable excitement reminded us just how much better he is at describing a bunch of robots kicking the metallic shit out of each other. https://twitter.com/_BenWills/status/757294548196401152 Even if his laugh is a bit creepy... https://twitter.com/richardwakeling/status/757298654520700928 The house robots were all still knocking about too... https://twitter.com/imsgtfrozty/status/757298242044518400 https://twitter.com/MooEvilBoffin/status/757300985882636288 Obviously, we were all much younger when Robot Wars was last on. Some of us were even kids, sitting cross-legged on our parents' living room floor gawping at it open-mouthed on a non-flat TV. https://twitter.com/BeechardRich/status/757295344686432256 If you were a youngster back then, you probably had plenty of admiration for the blokes that dedicated their lives to producing a robot that could see off Sir Killalot et al. But now that we're a bit older and wiser, some of us have taken a slightly more cynical approach. https://twitter.com/PrayForPatrick/status/757291016080789504 https://twitter.com/theboywhoslept/status/757296372177567745 https://twitter.com/AdsBrown/status/757296321757929473 Although many things had remained just as they were on the show, there were a few telling signs that this Robot Wars was very much taking place in 2016. The use of 'bae' just wouldn't have been seen in 2004, would it? https://twitter.com/MrCarb1/status/757294659861356544 All in all though, the majority of those that tuned in were delighted to see it return. https://twitter.com/WillDownes/status/757304943976017920 https://twitter.com/JacobDavies2/status/757305785022091265 https://twitter.com/DaveCooper32/status/757305883391037440
