Straight Outta Compton heads straight into the record books

The N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton has smashed all projections by taking over $60m in its first weekend.

The film's performance makes it the fifth-highest grossing August release in American history and the highest ever grossing R-rated debut for the month. Despite production costs of just $29m, the documentary has made more in its opening week than Ant-Man ($57.2m) and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation ($55.5m) - both of which had a budget of over $125m. Straight Outta Compton's weekend takings were massively impressive compared to the other big release The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - which only brought in $13.4m depsite a $75m budget.
