After years of repetitive “Advance-play game-tweak squad-advance-play game” clicking, Career Mode looks like it’ll finally be getting a shot in the arm for FIFA 17.
Electronic Arts have been hard at work to make FIFA’s single-player experience worth playing this time around.
First came the release of “The Journey” – FIFA’s new RPG style narrative where you control one player.
Now, EA Sports Canada have released some details as to what new feature they’ll bring to Career Mode once you’ve turned Alex Hunter into Yung Marcus Rashford.
Here’s what’s coming to FIFA 17’s Career Mode.
Greater board realism
AC Milan have finished no higher than 7th for the past three seasons. They’re a squad in need of serious surgery and reinvestment. But if you take control of them in FIFA 16 the board will most likely ask you to challenge for the title.
Mate, c’mon… be realistic.
FIFA 17 is offering reworked board expectations – dubbed Total Club Management – when you take over a club. Each team is now promising a “unique personality which dictates the goals you’ll need to achieve in both the short and long term to succeed at your club.”
Basically Real Madrid want you to win the Champions League, while Crystal Palace would be dead pleased if you get some youth players to win a cup, providing you balance the books.
Your board’s expectations fall into five categories:
- Domestic Success
- Continental Success
- Brand Exposure
- Financial
- Youth Development
Keep your board sweet and your manager profile will increase, allowing you to apply for better jobs. EA is promising Total Club Management “keeps your career experience fresh and dynamic season by season.”
Reworked finances
FIFA 17 will be getting a dose of the Ed Woodwards as finances will be getting an overhaul as well. Players will now “be able to see a detailed breakdown of your income from transfers, loans, match-day revenue, media and merchandising, while your outgoings on player and scout wages, youth facilities, stadium maintenance and travel will also be visible to you in the Finances menu.”
Hopefully this works as more than a big slider to change transfer fees into wage money, as it’d be nice to take part in some long term loan deals to balance the books, a la Bayern and Kingsley Coman.
The Japanese League
While it’s all well and good creating a footballing version of the Harlem Globetrotters with Chelsea, Manchester City or Real Madrid, FIFA’s Career Mode has always been more rewarding when you dip into the unknown.
Long term investment with clubs in the Football League, or venturing forth with teams you’ve never heard of has always added a mystery element to the traditional FIFA formula, which is why we’re rather excited about the addition of Japanese football – specifically the J-League – to FIFA 17.
